Discovery of the Central Market Hall
Are you familiar with the rich history of this unique place in the middle of Amsterdam? This summer, the secrets of the Central Market Hall will be revealed in Heritage Parade, a theatrical exploration for the whole family. In this storytelling theatre by Erris van Ginkel, the market master, the date vendor, the banana ripener, the restaurateur and the olive vendor share their secrets. How did they feed Amsterdam for almost a century? And how did Amsterdam get acquainted with new cultures? Discover the delicious history of this place. The Heritage Parade performance can be watched alternately on Saturdays or Sundays during the months of July and August. Book your ticket here.
The Keith Haring mural on the Food Centre grounds has been the part of this area’s unique DNA from the word go. This amazing cultural heritage will soon become one of the connecting factors between Marktkwartier West and the surrounding neighbourhoods and districts. The mural is one of the largest surviving public works by Keith Haring in Europe. Want to find out more about this legendary artist and activist? "Amsterdam Notes”, one of Keith Haring's largest pieces is currently on display in the Stedelijk Museum's Hall of Honor. The whopping 38m drawing features fantastical monsters and colossal animals, with human figures dancing, flying and making love in between.
